Wild Brown Bear

Bear and Wolverine photography in Finland

Birds

In addition to the numerous predators in the area, the surrounding landscape hosts a very wide variety of birdlife. Wild Brown Bear is situated amongst a lively ecosystem consisting of a vast variety of flora and fauna, and after spending a long night in the wildlife hides, a relaxing afternoon is much needed.

The forest area near to the lodge hosts species. There is a large bird hide which is also available for use 24/7, many species have been observed here.

There are also a whole host of species which frequent the wetland area nearby the hides. May is a good time for birds as most migratory birds are moving: passerines, waterfowl, eagles and falcons move to the north and it is possible to see them also from the hides. Birds can be heard singing all throughout the surrounding environment.

Owls may call at night, and sometimes they fly in the hide area or sit in surrounding trees. In good years when there are plenty of moles, owls have plenty of food and it is then possible to see or hear Tengmalm’s Owl, Ural Owl, Eurasian Pygmy Owl and Great Grey Owl.

In the ponds of the hide area, it is possible to observe and photograph Goldeneye, Common Teal, Mallard, Eurasian Wigeon, Smew and Whooper Swan. On the bank Common Sandpiper, Ruff, Common Greenshank, occasionally Common Crane, Bean Goose or White-tailed Eagle can be seen searching for food.
